Installation:

Windows:

To install the plug-in on the Windows platform, first quit
FileMaker Pro if it is open. Next unzip the contents of the
POP3it zip file into a directory. After you have unziped the
zip file into a directory, run the POP3it_Installer application.

NOTE: The installer WILL NOT run from inside an unzipping program
like WinZip or ZipMagic. You MUST unzip the file into a directory
first.

The installer will place the POP3it Plug-in file into the "System"
directory located in your FileMaker Pro 4.x/5.x directory. If you
have a previous version of POP3it installed, the installer will
overwrite it. The next time you open FileMaker Pro the plug-in will
automatically be active.

Macintosh:

To install the plug-in on the Macintosh platform, first quit
FileMaker Pro if it is open. Next unstuff the contents of the
POP3it Stuffit file into a folder. After you have unstuffed the
Stuffit file into a folder, run the POP3it_Installer application.

The installer will place the POP3it Plug-in file into the
"FileMaker Extensions" folder located in your FileMaker Pro 4.x/5.x
directory. If you have a previous version of POP3it installed, the
installer will overwrite it. The next time you open FileMaker Pro
the plug-in will automatically be active.

Quick Start:

Once you have installed the plug-in as described above, make
sure to go to Edit->Preferences->Application, click on the
Plug-ins tab, and double-click the POP3it plug-in to begin
configuring it.

In the configuration box, click the "Basics" tab and enter your POP3
server in the Host field. Also enter your POP3 User name and
Password in their respective fields.

With these settings entered, you are ready to test POP3it. To begin
downloading email with POP3it open the POP3it_Example database,
provided in either a FileMaker 4.x or FileMaker 5.x version,
which has instructions on how to proceed. Please read through the
documentation as it covers the email scripts step by step. Also note
that we have included a POP3it_Functions database which is a
function reference database that is searchable and has examples of
how to use each function.

The POP3it_Example database solution is free and is not password
protected. Feel free to examine it, however, Comm-Unity Networking
Systems maintains the copyright for the database. Feel free to
use it as an example only.

POP3it History:

-- 10-9-2000 POP3it 2.0b1 released for both Mac and Win
This version brings both the Mac and Win versions to the same
ground. The Mac version now has a functioning Configuration
      Dialog.

    Bug Fixes:
      - Numerous bug fixes for both platforms, mostly involving
        attachments.
      - Mac version is now more stable.

    Features Added:
      - POP3it now knows the difference between Text and HTML
bodies and can give you the specific body type you are
        looking for.
      - You can now export HTML emails, complete with inline
graphics, to your hard drive so that you can view them
        in a web browser.

-- 6-13-2000 POP3it 1.5b1 released.
This is a complete rewrite of the plugin from the ground up
making it more stable, faster, and easier to use.

    Bug Fixes:
      - Fixed the bug that crashed FMP when the email had no
body or only had one line without a CRLF.
      - Attachments are no longer decoded when you call the
CurrBody function. They only are decoded when you call
        CurrAttach or CurrAll.

    Features Added:
      - POP3it now understands more types of attachment encoding.
It can handle Base64, UUencoding, Quoted-Printable (both
in the body and in the headers), and BinHex (sort of; it
        copies the data to a file with the extension .hqx;
Stuffit-Expander can read and decode these files).
      - POP3it now gives more meaningful errors. For example, when
you call OpenConnection with a bad Username, it will tell
you the Username was bad instead of just saying "Could
        not connect."

-- 9-6-1999 POP3it 1.0 released.

Known Issues:

-- Windows: When the Configuration Dialog is open, and you open up
the "Register" Dialog, and then switch applications, when you switch
back to FileMaker, the extra dialog is not always on top. Work
Around: Click on the Dialog Window on your Task Bar (next to the
"Start" button).

-- Macintosh: When the Configuration Dialog is open, if you drag the
dialog over a FileMaker database, the FileMaker Database will not
always be redrawn. We are attempting to fix this. Work arounds include
not draging the Configuation Dialog, or after closing, you can collapse
and re-expand the window, or hide and re-show the window.

-- Macintosh: If you disable (uncheck) POP3it in the FileMaker
Application Preferences, you will need to close and restart FileMaker
before you can re-enable it.
