Installation:

Windows:

To install the plug-in on the Windows platform, first quit
FileMaker Pro if it is open. Next unzip the contents of the
SMTPit zip file into a directory. After you have unziped the
zip file into a directory, run the SMTPit_Installer application.

NOTE: The installer WILL NOT run from inside an unzipping program
like WinZip or ZipMagic. You MUST unzip the file into a directory
first.

The installer will place the STMPit Plug-in file into the "System"
directory located in your FileMaker Pro 4.x/5.x directory. If you
have a previous version of SMTPit installed, the installer will
overwrite it. The next time you open FileMaker Pro the plug-in will
automatically be active.

Macintosh:

To install the plug-in on the Macintosh platform, first quit
FileMaker Pro if it is open. Next unstuff the contents of the
SMTPit Stuffit file into a folder. After you have unstuffed the
Stuffit file into a folder, run the SMTPit_Installer application.

The installer will place the STMPit Plug-in file into the
"FileMaker Extensions" folder located in your FileMaker Pro 4.x/5.x
directory. If you have a previous version of SMTPit installed, the
installer will overwrite it. The next time you open FileMaker Pro
the plug-in will automatically be active.

Quick Start:

Once you have installed the plug-in as described above, make
sure to go to Edit->Preferences->Application, click on the
Plug-ins tab, and double-click the SMTPit plug-in to begin
configuring it.

Once in the configuration box, click the "Basics" tab and enter
your SMTP server in the Default SMTP Host field. Also, make sure
to enter a valid email address into the Default From Field. You
can also enter in a Default Subject and a Default Header and Footer
under the Header/Footer tab if desired. This version of SMTPit
introduces several new functions which also have defaults in the
configuration box, including Default Attachments and Email Headers.

To begin sending email with SMTPit open the Mailer_Example
database which has instructions on how to proceed. Please read
through the documentation for a complete understanding of the
database. The documentation covers the email scripts step by step
as well as how to use FileMaker plug-ins.

The Mailer_Example database is free and is not password protected.
Feel free to examine it, however, Comm-Unity Networking Systems
maintains the copyright for the database. Feel free to use it as
an example only.

SMTPit History:

-- 8-10-2000 SMTPit 2.5 officially released out of beta.

This version fixes a few bugs that were brought to our attention
in the beta testing period. It also adds one new feature: the
ability to define the column where SMTPit breaks lines before
sending to the mail server.

-- 7-26-2000 SMTPit 2.5b1 released.

This version adds HTML Email support and Inline HTML Images for
your HTML emails. The Macintosh version has now been stabalized
and both Macintosh and Windows versions are equal in
functionality and features.

-- 6-4-99 SMTPit 2.0 released.

This version brings attachments, email headers, better
documentation, new dialog boxes, and plug-in registration so that
you only have to download it once.

-- 4-16-99 SMTPit 1.03 released.

This version fixes a few bugs. Headers and footers will now show
returns appropriately. This version also adds a new function:
SMTP-FromNameAssign which will allow you to set a from name. Also
added is a default from name in the configuration box.

-- 3-22-99 SMTPit 1.0 released.

-- 3-10-99 First public release, version 1.0b1

Known Issues:

-- Windows: There is a problem if you send an email message with
SMTPit and then break your internet connection by hand. To solve the
problem, make sure that you have an internet connection before you
start sending email, and maintain that connection until you are
through sending email. If you have to break the connection, make
sure to reestablish your connection before sending email again.

-- Windows: When the Configuration Dialog is open, and you open up
the "Add Email Header" Dialog, or the "Register" Dialog, and then
switch applications, when you switch back to FileMaker, the extra
dialog is not always on top. Work Around: Click on the Dialog Window
on your Task Bar (next to the "Start" button).

-- Macintosh: When the Configuration Dialog is open, if you drag the
dialog over a FileMaker database, the FileMaker Database will not
always be redrawn. We are attempting to fix this. Work arounds include
not draging the Configuation Dialog, or after closing, you can collapse
and re-expand the window, or hide and re-show the window.

-- Macintosh: If you disable (uncheck) SMTPit in the FileMaker
Application Preferences, you will need to close and restart FileMaker
before you can re-enable it.
