Description:

SPEAKit is a FileMaker Pro 4.x/5.x plug-in that will allow your
Windows FileMaker Pro databases to speak any text that you wish.
No longer is this solely a Macintosh feature. This plug-in uses
Microsoft's Text-to-Speech engine, which you must install
separately. (Please see below for instructions on how to
download and install Microsoft's Text-to-Speech engine.)
For a description of SPEAKit functions, please consult the
SPEAKit_Guide, in Text format, provided with this archive.

Plug-in Installation:

To install the plug-in on the Windows platform, first quit
FileMaker Pro if it is open. Next, unzip the contents of the
SAVEit zip file into a directory. After you have unziped the
zip file into a directory, you should find a file in that
directory named "SPEAKit.fmx" This is the plug-in file. Copy this
file to the directory named "System" inside your FileMaker Pro
application directory. This directory is usually on your hard
drive in a directory similar to this:

c:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro\System\

The next time you open FileMaker Pro the plug-in will automatically
be active.

MS Text-to-Speech Installation:

Before you can use this plug-in, you will need to install
Microsoft's Text-to-Speech Engine and the Speech Control panel if you have not already
done so. Here are a few reasons why it might already be
installed:

- If you are running Windows 2000, it is installed.
- If you have installed Microsoft's Agent control (the animated
figures like the Wizard, Genie, Peedy, Robo, etc.) and it
can speak to you, it is installed.
- If you have installed MagicSpell for ICQ, and it works, then
    it is installed,

Otherwise, if you need to install it, here are some links that
you can use:

MS Text-to-Speech Engine:
http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/downloads/user.asp#tts

Speech control panel:
http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/downloads/user.asp#cpl

Optional: Lernaut and Hauspie TruVoice Text-To-Speech / Extra Voices:
http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/agent2/tv_enua.exe

Optional: Text-to-Speech Control Panel Applet:
http://agent.microsoft.com/agent2/spchcpl.exe

Once you have the above installed, you should be able to use
SPEAKit without any problems. If it does not work, please email
us at SPEAKit@comm-unity.net with error messages so that we can
determine what else you might need to install.

Quick Start:

Once you have installed the plug-in and Microsoft Text-to-Speech
engine as described above, you are ready to begin using SPEAKit.

For a quick and easy overview of how SPEAKit works, open up the
SPEAKit_Example.fp3 database. Inside this database you will find
examples of each of the SPEAKit functions.

The SPEAKit_Example.fp3 solution is free and is not password
protected. Feel free to examine it, however, Comm-Unity Networking
Systems maintains the copyright for the database. Feel free to
use it as an example only.

Features:

- Bring the power of Text-to-Speech to your Windows FileMaker Pro
databases. It is no longer just a Macintosh feature.
- Queue up tons of text to be spoken in the background while your
scripts and your users continue to work.
- Pause, Resume, and even completely Stop queued text.
- Change the speed of speech. Make it talk faster if you are in a
hurry, or slower if you need to understand exactly what it
    says.
- Select a different voice on the fly.

For a description of SPEAKit functions, please consult the
